Our Story: The Hall Family Legacy
Our family's journey begins in the early 19th century, rooted in the fertile lands of Louisiana, Virginia, and Kentucky. This is a story of resilience, migration, and the enduring bonds that connect four generations of the Hall family.
The Foundation: First Generation
In the 1810s and 1820s, four families planted the seeds of our legacy. James Duncan, born around 1817 in Louisiana, married Nancy Hilliard, who came into the world around 1826 in Virginia. Their union would become one of the cornerstone relationships of our family tree.
Nearby, James Hilliard, born around 1834 in Louisiana, wed Annie Hilliard, born in August 1832, also in Louisiana. Meanwhile, in Kentucky, Jacob Greenup, born around 1830, married Mary Greenup, who was born around 1827 in Virginia. These early pioneers lived through a transformative period in American history, building their lives in the South during times of great change.
Building Bridges: Second Generation
From these unions came the second generation, who would forge the connections that define our family today. Dave Duncan Sr., born in November 1849, married Lorenza Hilliard, born around 1844. Their marriage united the Duncan and Hilliard lines, creating a powerful family bond.
At the same time, Wallace Greenup, born around 1839, married Amy Rolls, bringing together the Greenup lineage with new blood. These couples raised their families during the Reconstruction era and into the turn of the century, witnessing America's dramatic transformation from an agricultural society to an industrial nation.
The Hall Name Emerges: Third Generation
The third generation saw the emergence of the Hall family name that would carry forward to today. Aspen Hall, born in January 1841, married Mary Hall, born in September 1854. Together they became the parents of General Hall, establishing the Hall lineage that would flourish in the generations to come.
Simultaneously, Kiah Duncan, born in September 1868, married Caroline Greenup, born in February 1874. This union brought together the Duncan and Greenup lines, weaving another thread in our family tapestry. Through their daughter Georgia Hall, the Duncan-Greenup heritage merged with the Hall family.
The Modern Era: Fourth Generation
Today, the fourth generation carries forward this rich legacy. Robert Hall, Mary Hall Maten, Corean Hall Washington, Cary Hall Cobb, and Ruth Hall Johnson represent the living testament to nearly two centuries of family history. Each carries within them the strength of ancestors who built lives across Louisiana, Virginia, and Kentucky, who weathered the challenges of the 19th and 20th centuries, and who passed down values, stories, and an unbreakable family connection.
From the Louisiana bayous to the Virginia hills, from Kentucky bluegrass to wherever our family members call home today, the Hall family legacy continues—a story of perseverance, love, and the ties that bind us across time and distance.
