The story of the Hall family
Our family story starts back in the early 1800s, with roots in Louisiana, Virginia, and Kentucky. It’s a tale about strong, hardworking folks who kept moving forward, and the lasting bonds that have held seven generations of the Hall family close together.
The Foundation: First Generation
Back in the 1810s and 1820s, four families began the journey that shaped our legacy. James Duncan, born around 1817 in Louisiana, married Nancy Hilliard, who was born around 1826 in Virginia. Their marriage became one of the key foundations of our family tree.
Not far away, James Hilliard, born around 1834 in Louisiana, married Annie Hilliard, who was born in August 1832, also in Louisiana. Meanwhile, over in Kentucky, Jacob Greenup, born around 1830, married Mary Greenup, who was born around 1827 in Virginia. These early pioneers experienced a time of great change in American history, building their lives in the South during an important era.
Building Bridges: Second Generation
From these unions came the second generation, who helped shape the strong family connections we cherish today. Dave Duncan Sr., born in November 1849, married Lorenza Hilliard, born around 1844, bringing together the Duncan and Hilliard families in a wonderful bond.
Around the same time, Wallace Greenup, born about 1839, married Amy Rolls, blending the Greenup line with fresh new roots. These couples raised their families during the Reconstruction era and into the dawn of the 20th century, experiencing firsthand America’s incredible journey from a farming society to an industrial powerhouse.
The Hall Name Emerges: Third Generation
The third generation introduced the Hall family name that continues to this day. Aspen Hall, born in January 1841, married Mary Hall, who was born in September 1854. Together, they became the proud parents of General Hall, laying the foundation for the Hall lineage that would thrive in the years ahead.
At the same time, Kiah Duncan, born in September 1868, married Caroline Greenup, born in February 1874. Their marriage united the Duncan and Greenup families, adding another beautiful thread to our family story. Through their daughter Georgia Hall, the Duncan-Greenup heritage beautifully blended with the Hall family.
The Modern Era: Fourth Generation
These days, the Hall family continues their rich legacy with proud members like Robert Hall, Mary Hall Maten, Corean Hall Washington, Cary Hall Cobb, and Ruth Hall Johnson. They’re living proof of nearly two hundred years of family history. Each generation carries the strength of ancestors who made their homes in Louisiana, Virginia, and Kentucky (isn’t that cool?), overcoming tough times in the 1800s and 1900s while holding on to their values, stories, and strong family bonds.
From Louisiana’s bayous to Virginia’s hills, from Kentucky’s bluegrass to wherever folks call home today, the Hall story continues, a tale of persistence, affection, and the ties that hold us together. After all, doesn't every family wonder what it means to keep history going and growing strong together!
